Bakhtavar Khan, well known by her stage nae, ‘Sonam’, is a former Indian actress, known for her works in the Hindi Film Industry. Her stage name was given to her by Indian Film director and Producer, ‘Yash Chopra’. She has also starred in few Telugu films.

Career:

She made her debut in acting through the Telugu film, ‘Samrat’, in the year 1987. Following this, she made her Bollywood debut through the movie, ‘Vijay’, in the year 1988. She became an actress at a very young age of 14. She gained popularity through the movie, ‘Tridev’, in the year 1989. She is well known for the songs like, ‘Oye Oye… Tirchi Topi Wale, Mitti Aur Sona etc’. She was considered as one of the ‘Sex Icon’ of the industry, during late 1980’s. Following the success of Tridev, she got offers from many Telugu and Hindi films. She quit her acting career in the year 1994, after her marriage with the famous director, ‘Rajiv Rai’. Later, she along with her husband has to leave India, due to the threat for her husband’s life because of the crime leader, ‘Abu Saleem’. However, their marriage did not last long and they have been living separately, since 2001.
