Pyarimohan Mohapatra, was a member of Parliament of India representing Odisha in the Rajya Sabha and a member of the political party Odisha Janmorcha (OJM). He served as a political advisor of ‘Naveen Patnaik’, the Chief Minister of Odisha. He was considered as the mastermind and proxy leader of the Biju Janata Dal.
He started his career as an IAS officer and was the principal secretary of Biju Patnaik. He was suspended from the Biju Janata Dal, in the year 2012, following an alleged coup against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, while he was in London. He resigned from the parliamentary group leader in Rajya Sabha, in the year August, 2012. He claimed the reason to be the lack of communication between him, BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Following the resignation, he formed a political party Odisha JanMorcha, as a rebel party against Biju Janata Dal in the 2014 and fought in the State Legislative elections. However, there was not much victory for him in that election. He was hospitalized for 8 months, in Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, in a critical condition. However, ‘The Chanakya of Odisha Politics’, breathed his last on March 19th, 2017, without any success of treatment.
